I decided to adopt through private domestic adoption. When I first started the adoption process, I had no idea what a "Profile" or "Dear Birth Mother letter" was. I quickly learned the importance of this tool when talking with potential Birth Mother's. Many asked “ Can you send me your profile?” When I did not have one and someone else did. Who do you think they took more seriously? I knew that I had to create a letter and pictures that were ready to go if I was asked again. My first Birth Mom letter was pretty simple, yet heart-felt which was key. When it came time to start again to adopt our second child … I really dove into it and created a “profile”. It screamed that we were serious and ready to adopt by reading our profile. Everyone that read it, relatives, friends, other families looking to adopt, would ask “Did you write this?” I realized that I had a knack for expressing “feelings” ( I always have) and not just the facts. Let’s face it adoption is an emotional process. Wouldn't you want your profile to have emotion to it? I have successfully adopted three children and I will tell you having a well written well thought out, heart-felt profile is a key factor.
